Roman Říčař

Actor, singer, musician.

Born on 12 July 1976

Roman graduated from the State Conservatory, majoring in Musical Theatre, and then continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (Charles University), Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre, which he left after his third term.

During his third term at the conservatory, Roman started acting at the National Theatre, and then was cast in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, where he spent the following three seasons (appearing in almost 800 performances). Other musicals soon followed, namely Rusalka and Hamlet.

After a two year break, during which he mainly focused on advertising, film and theatre music (The Little Prince (film, SK), Maids (theatrical performance, the Rubín theatre) and Red Magic (theatrical performance, Celetná Theatre), he was offered the parts of Lancelot and Vortinger in the original Czech musical Excalibur. For his depiction of the main character Rum Tum Tugger in the musical CATS, Roman was nominated for the highly prestigious theatrical award Thalie (2006). At the music festival Smetana’s Litomyšl 2006, he sang the part of Pontius Pilate in the concert performance of Jesus Christ Superstar. Under the direction of Petr Novotný, he then appeared as Jack the Ripper in the original Czech musical Jack the Ripper, which has recently entered its second successful season in the Kalich theatre. Subsequently, the ABC Theatre chose him to play the part of Bejby in the musical Šakalí léta (Jackal’s Years), for wich he received another Thalie nomination (2007). In January 2008 he was offered the part of Billy Bigelow in czech version of famous american musical Carousel in J.K.Tyl Theatre in Pilsen.

Since childhood, Roman has worked in film dubbing and as a TV and radio speaker. He became ‚the voice of the Kiss Radio‘. He has appeared in multiple TV commercials (T-mobile, Telecom) and in several minor roles, both TV and film. He presents the show Hydepark featured on the Óčko music TV channel.

Roman also gives concerts with his own band named Multiplayer (CD Dej mi Den, 2007), is the frontman of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers revival band and is a long-term guest of the band Second Band. As a vocalist, he has collaborated on the recordings of numerous prominent Czech artists such as Janek Ledecký and Petr Hapka to name but a few.
